Pfeiffer Duo Rotary Pumps

Rave Scientific offers the Pfeiffer Duo two-stage high-performance rotary vane pumps. The Duo Rotary Pumps cover all low and medium vacuum applications, achieving pumping speeds of 1.25 to 300 m3/h. Applications range from mass spectrometry or optical coating to critical industrial applications such as drying processes, metallurgical processes or resin casting systems. The DUO 1.6 M model uses a magnetic coupling between the motor and the pumping mechanism. That means there’s no direct shaft seal between the motor and the vacuum chamber.The standard DUO 1.6 has a conventional shaft seal to drive the pump.

Advantages of Magnetic Coupling vs Standard Shaft Seal  

• Reduced Leakage Risk: The magnetic coupling significantly reduces the chance of oil leakage through a mechanical shaft seal — good for cleaner operation and when pumping sensitive gases.  
• Lower Wear on Seals: Fewer moving seals usually means lower maintenance and potentially longer service life, especially under frequent start/stop or harsh use conditions.  
• Performance Otherwise Similar: Both pumps share the same nominal pumping speed (~1.25 m³/h at 50 Hz, ~1.5 m³/h at 60 Hz), similar ultimate pressures (~3×10⁻³ mbar), gas ballast, safety valve, and overall design.
